IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING TUITION WAIVERS:
Notice to recipients of R.I. unemployment and senior citizen tuition waivers: By law, these waivers may be used only on a space available basis. This means that they may NOT be used for specific courses that reserve places for students upon acceptance into a program. Such courses are presently found in performance based health science programs, and in limited enrollment programs such as Energy Utility Technology certificate and Culinary Arts Assistant certificate. As a result, recipients of waivers who wish to enroll in these specific courses will need to make arrangements to pay for the associated tuition, fees, books etc. Payment plans and financial aid are available to help pay for educational expenses.

Summer 2024 Important Notice:
READ BEFORE REGISTERING FOR SUMMER 2024 COURSES
- For the Summer 2024 Session 1, students using an unemployment or senior waiver may register beginning May 15. For the Summer 2024 Session 2, students using an unemployment or senior waiver may register beginning June 26. Waivers will be submitted online.
- Registrations are granted on a space-available basis for those students utilizing the Unemployment and Senior Citizen waivers provided that all course prerequisites are met. Waiver students are not eligible to wait list for courses prior to waiver day.
- If you register prior to the aforementioned date you will be required to pay your tuition and fees to retain your seats. To use your waiver for specific course sections, you must have the original registration canceled and then re-register during the publicized official add period. The add period for Summer Session 1 is May 20-22, 2024. The add period for Summer Session 2 is July 1-3, 2024. However, you may register for other sections of the same course anytime after the specified waiver registration date.
- All new students must complete an Application for Enrollment prior to registering for courses at CCRI.
- Apply online at www.ccri.edu.
Overview
The Community College of Rhode Island participates in several waiver agreements passed by the Rhode Island General Assembly. Some restrictions apply.
- Waivers must be used for credit courses (no audits).
- Most waivers apply to courses on a space available basis. Waiver students are assigned specific registration dates.
- Waivers may not be used for study abroad.
- Waivers do not cover the cost of books or school supplies.
UNEMPLOYMENT WAIVER
Summer Session 2 Online Unemployment Waiver Form
Detailed Instructions on Using the Online Unemployment Waiver Form
The Rhode Island General Assembly has enacted legislation granting a tuition and registration fee waiver to certain income qualified students receiving unemployment benefits on a space available basis. The unemployment waiver is available to RI residents only. The student is responsible for the payment of all other fees assessed by the College at the time of registration as well as payment for books.
Upon registration, the student must submit the following:
- Original DLT-467 form from the local employment office, certifying eligibility to receive benefits pursuant to title 28 Chapter 42-44 of the General Laws of Rhode Island. The Summer Session 1 DLT-467 must be dated March 16, 2024 or after. The Summer Session 2 DLT-467 must be dated April 27, 2024 or after.
- Means test including a signed copy of an appropriate FEDERAL tax form and W-2
- Printed confirmation of a FAFSA "Free Application for Federal Student Aid". FAFSA applications can be processed over the WEB at www.fafsa.ed.gov
- CCRI application for Admission if not currently enrolled in a program of study by the end of the add period for that semester.
Please Note: Grants and scholarships awarded will be applied first to your tuition in lieu of your waiver. Your waiver will be reduced by the amount of these awards. Waivers do not cover the cost of books. All forms must be approved by the Office of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs prior to submission to the Bursar's Office for processing. SENIOR CITIZEN WAIVER
Summer Session 2 Online Senior Citizen Waiver Form
Detailed Instructions on Using the Online Senior Citizen Waiver Form
The Rhode Island General Assembly has enacted legislation granting a tuition waiver to certain income qualified permanent RI residents who are at least 60 years of age on a space available basis. The student is responsible for the payment of all other fees assessed by the College at the time of registration as well as payment for books.
Upon registration, the student must submit the following:
- Evidence of being at least 60 years of age
- Means Test including a signed copy of an appropriate FEDERAL tax form and W-2 if applicable.
- Printed confirmation of a FAFSA "Free Application for Federal Student Aid". FAFSA applications can be processed over the WEB at www.fafsa.ed.gov
- CCRI Application for Admission if not currently enrolled in a program of study by the end of the add period for that semester.

RHODE ISLAND NATIONAL GUARD WAIVER
The Rhode Island General Assembly has enacted legislation granting tuition waivers to members of the Rhode Island National Guard. For further information, please contact the Rhode Island National Guard. All waiver paperwork must be submitted to the Bursar's Office online through [email protected]. The waiver only covers the cost of tuition. All other applicable fees must be paid upon submission of the waiver form.
DISABLED VETERANS WAIVER
The Rhode Island General Assembly has enacted legislation granting tuition waivers to Disabled American Veterans who are permanent RI residents. All waiver paperwork must be submitted to the Bursar's Office online through [email protected].
Upon registration, the student must submit the following to the Bursar's Office:
- Evidence of being a permanent RI resident
- Written proof from the Veteran's Affairs Office that he/she is 10% to 100% disabled at the time of registration. This applies to those students utilizing the Disabled Veteran's Waiver for the first time only.
- Printed confirmation of FAFSA "Free Application for Federal Student Aid". FAFSA applications can be processed over the WEB at www.fafsa.ed.gov
Please note: Grants and scholarships awarded will be applied first to your tuition in lieu of your waiver. Your waiver will be reduced by the amount of these awards. Fall 2024 Semester Important Notice:

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I apply for a waiver?
If you are a Rhode Island resident who is unemployed or 60 years of age or older,
you may be eligible to use an Unemployment or Senior Citizen tuition waiver at CCRI.
Are fees and books covered by the waiver?
These waivers pay for the cost of tuition. Applicable fees and books are the responsibility
of the student. What are applicable fees? Fees are costs above tuition that associate
with the courses you select. Click here for the complete list of fees.
When and how do I pay?
Payment of fees are due after you register. Log into your MyCCRI account and click the "My Account" tab to make payment online. Payments may also be made
in person at the Bursar's Office. Please check the schedule before coming in to make
payment as campus location hours may vary.
Can I register prior to waiver day?
No, if you register prior to waiver day you will be required to pay your tuition and
fees to retain your seat. If you registered prior to the designated waiver day, you
must cancel that registration. The student may re-register during the add period,
which begins the day classes start. Beginning on Waiver Day, a student may register
for those same courses, but they must be different sections. Students can also register
for other courses.
I am a Rhode Island resident and worked in (MA or CT) I was recently laid off, am
I eligible to use a RI unemployment waiver?
Yes, RI Residents with Out of State Unemployment Claims are eligible to use the unemployment
waiver as long as you meet the requirements. The following items are required:
- Speak with a representative at the Department of Labor & Training to obtain form DLT-467.
- Proof of FAFSA application
- Federal tax form 1040 from previous year
- W-2’s from previous year
- Payment of fees assessed by the college
Can a promise student use an unemployment waiver in lieu of the Promise scholarship?
A student who is in the promise program and, is considered a dependent student for
financial aid purposes, is not eligible for an unemployment waiver.
Can I use the waiver for my tuition instead of a Pell grant, scholarship money or
other free aid?
Federal regulations require that grant and scholarship awards be applied to the student’s
tuition first. The student’s unemployment/senior citizen waiver will be reduced by
the amount of these awards.
When will I know that my waiver has been processed?
You will receive an email from [email protected] containing your balance information
and payment instructions. If you receive a bill, your waiver was not approved. Please
contact the bursar’s office by emailing [email protected] or by text to 401-284-7001.
I am not able to locate my federal tax return what can I do?
The IRS can supply you with a federal tax transcript for the year you need, visit:
www.irs.gov.
What information is required to upload with my application and means test? Waiver
applicants will need the following:
Upload One of the following documents as proof of FAFSA filing.
- Confirmation page from the FAFSA submission or,
- Copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) from the FAFSA website (www.fafsa.gov) or,
- Print out of the financial aid requirements from the “For Students” tab on the student’s MyCCRI account indicating institutional student information record received
Upload additional documents listed below before completing the application.
1. Signed copy of the Federal Income Tax form 1040, if applicable.
2. All wages from unemployed individual(s) line 1 of form W-2
3. Unemployed applicants must upload a current Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training form DLT-467.
I’m applying for the unemployment waiver and I can’t download my DLT-467 form what
can I do?
If you are unable to obtain the DLT 467 prior to waiver day, it must be submitted
prior to the last day of the term. If you do not submit the form by the last day of
the term, you will be responsible for payment of the course(s).

2. DLT uses a specific .pdf format. It is a form that gets populated for each individual user. If the download does not open or the form is blank, please try the workaround below:
In your Downloads folder, right click on the link labeled "TuitionWaiverCertificate" and click "Edit." Notepad will open showing the text of the link, including a url for the .pdf form and the text to be entered in each field. Copy and pasted the url into the web browser to access the .pdf, then manually entered the information character-by-character in each field (Date name, and SSN; the eligibility box is already filled in). When you successfully retrieve the DLT 467 form, please forward to [email protected] and include your name and student ID number.
