Basic Rider 3-Wheel Course

Unfortunately, it is that time of year again, the leaves are down and the frost has arrived.  On behalf of the Motorcycle Safety Department, we would like to thank you for showing interest in Motorcycle Safety Education.  2024 was a busy year and we look forward to seeing many of you next year in our advanced courses, and welcoming all newcomers who wish to obtain a Motorcycle license.  We are not taking any more registrations for 2024 but we look forward to early sign ups in the spring. Our courses will resume in late March 2025. Please check back to register in mid-February.

Under newly passed law § 31-10.1-1. License required. [Effective March 1, 2022.] CCRI currently offers 3-wheel licensing program. This course is designed to introduce the fundamentals of safe and responsible 3-wheel motorcycle riding, and prepares riders for entry into the complex environment of traffic. A completion certificate will be given for those who successfully pass the test and complete the course. This certificate is needed to apply for the RI State 3-wheel vehicle permit.

If you are looking to get a 3-wheel license you will need to take the 3-wheel course. The 2-wheel course will only get you a 2- wheel license under RI Law 31-10.1-1.

This 3-Wheel Basic Rider Course is for anyone seeking a 3-wheel motorcycle license, this course meets the requirement of the state Motorcycle Rider Safety Course. The lecture portion of the course will be ONLINE, and it is recommended that this online portion is taken within 30 days prior to your first range. (Unless otherwise directed by a CCRI administrator). The Range portion of the course will be IN-PERSON.

The 3-wheel program allows bike sharing for CCRI owned MC’s which means two riders share one bike, exercise is separated into two groups. Currently we have one H-D trike to use as well as three CanAm’s.
