VA Work-Study Program

The VA Work-Study program at CCRI is an opportunity for student veterans to maintain part-time employment while pursuing their college education. Students serving in the program will work out of one of the four Veteran Services Office located at each of the four campuses. Work-Study Partners act as liaisons between the VA, CCRI and veterans in pursuit of their education. A Work-Study Partner might, for example, handle paperwork, field questions both over the phone or in person, disseminate pertinent information to veterans throughout the school and organize student veteran events. 

VA Work-Study Eligibility:

The VA work-study allowance is available to military dependents using their loved one's VA Education benefits, veterans, and National Guard Service member. You must be at least 3/4 full time for the semester and have a 2.5 cumulative GPA. You must be registered for the semester you plan to be a Work-Study Partner using one of the following VA Education programs:

• Chapter 30
• Chapter 31
• Chapter 32
• Chapter 33
• Chapter 35 Dependents
• Chapter 1606

How Much May I Earn?

You’ll earn an hourly wage equal to the Federal minimum wage or your State minimum wage, whichever is greater. If you’re in a work-study job at a college or university, your school may pay you the difference between the amount VA pays and the amount the school normally pays other work-study students doing the same job as you.

You may elect to be paid in advance 50 hours. After you’ve completed the hours covered by your first payment, the VA will pay you each time you complete 50 hours of service OR bi-weekly, whichever comes first.

You may work during or between periods of enrollment. You can arrange with VA to work any number of hours you want during your enrollment. But, the total number of hours you work can’t be more than 25 times the number of weeks in your enrollment period.

How Do I Apply for VA Work-Study at CCRI?

There are currently 15 work-study positions available at CCRI: 7 at Warwick, 3 each in Providence and Lincoln, and 2 in Newport.

1. Meet VA Work-Study Eligibility requirements above and maintain a 2.5 GPA.
2. Be eligible to work 18-25 hours per week during office hours.
3. Submit your CCRI Student Veteran Certification Worksheet early.
4. Read the VA Work Study job descriptions below. Schedule a resume & cover letter appointment with Career Services.
5. Provide an unofficial transcript, class schedule, resume, and cover letter.
6. Email the Veteran Resource Coordinator with the documentation listed above and to schedule an interview. Note: the VA work-study application will not be required until the interview.
